Balancé

pronunciation: ba-lahn-say

translation: "balanced"

Alternating balance between the feet.  The rhythm is usually in three counts like a waltz and has the motion pattern of going “down, up, down." 

Progression of the Balancé:

  1. Extend the back leg out to the side

  2. [DOWN] Step and fondu on the leg that you just extended while crossing the other foot behind the ankle

  3. [UP] Step up on the ball of the back foot while slightly lifting the front foot and pointing it

  4. [DOWN] Step and fondu once again on the front foot.
