The Benefits of Ballet
Hello friends! Many of us started this year off with a particular goal in mind… to lose weight. But it is not that simple. The challenge is to find a workout that you will actually stick with. A workout that not only burns calories, but stimulates your mind and keeps you engaged so that you come back for more.
Ballet provides the mental and physical benefits plus the fun environment that you have been looking for. In this blog, I will explain those benefits in more depth.
Physical Benefits
Core - The annoying trouble area for a lot of people. However, in the world of ballet, core work and “engaging the abs” (as many dance teachers would say), is a part of the deal. Core strength is essential to every ballet position. Barre work is very steady and slow, which forces the core to work harder to maintain stability and adjust according to the position. Read more about strengthening your core on my website.
Posture - Something as simple as posture will make you feel much more confident. Most day to day life is spent slouched over a desk or steering wheel. Ballet counters that and is all about presentation and posture. You learn to elongate and pull your shoulders back. Read more about sculpting long and lean muscles.
Balance and Coordination - Say bye to having two left feet! Ballet movement requires equal strength on both legs, allowing dancers to handle the poses, kicks, turns and jumps that make an audience say, “Ooooo... Ahhhh!” Like anything else, this balance and coordination improves with practice. Read more about improving balance and agility.
Mental Benefits
Ballet positively affects your mental health and well-being as well! Here are some benefits you will notice, even after just one class.
Confidence - Don’t be fooled or intimidated by ballet stereotypes. Anyone can do ballet. Once you realize that, you will find yourself achieving the posture and control of prima ballerina. Just come to my class and see for yourself! Practice pays off, even in something you never thought you could do. Your confidence will soar as a result.
Healthy Eating Habits - When you attend a recurring ballet class, the last thing you want is to feel bloated. It restricts you. You will find that by developing healthier eating habits, your time in ballet class will be a more enjoyable and satisfying experience. Stay tuned for the next blog, where I will give you some healthy pre- and post-workout snack recipes!
