5 Motivational New Year Resolutions for 2018

2018 is here, and with the new year comes new year resolutions! While setting goals for 2018 is a good thing, many resolutions prove hard to stick to. It is important to choose realistic resolutions that truly enrich your life. Here are my recommendations for 5 motivational new year resolutions to use in 2018.

Get organized.

Make your life more manageable by cleaning out your home. A simple reorganization of your closet can make your morning a lot easier. Not only will you rediscover some items you forgot you had, but you will be able to declutter and donate items you no longer want. A clear room equals a clear mind.

Adopt a healthier lifestyle.

This doesn’t necessarily mean lose weight. A healthy lifestyle is made up of small changes over time. Great manageable health resolutions include drinking more water, making your plate more colorful (with fruits and veggies), and regular exercise. Not only are these changes great for your physical health, they help your mental health as well. Studies show that regular movement, especially outdoors, can boost your mood.

Be kind to yourself.

It is important to treat yourself with respect. Remember, if you wouldn’t say it to someone else, don’t say it to yourself. You deserve the kind treatment you give to others.

Establish boundaries.

It is easy to let others, especially those we love, take control. While it may seem that giving people like our significant others, kids, and bosses more control is an act of kindness, it is not necessarily good for us. Make sure you establish boundaries at work, in your home, and in your relationships. Let people know your expectations, and what you are comfortable doing and not doing.

Think positive.

While this is easier said than done, it is important to remember to have a positive attitude. Contrary to popular belief, negative thoughts aren’t necessarily realistic and practical. By adopting positive thinking, you are helping your mental health. It does no good to obsess over the negative.
