Tips for the Adult Ballet Beginner

Never taken a ballet class before? Ballet Body by Jasmin welcomes you. The point of my class is to simply have fun! It doesn't matter what your age or body type is. Just have an open mind and enjoy yourself. Here are some quick tips and notes for you to remember for your first ballet class!

1. First thing's first, visit my previous blog for some wardrobe guidelines!

2. If this is your first ever ballet class, it is normal to be nervous! But try not to stress; the more often you attend class, the quicker the terminology and moves will sink in.

3. Ballet class structure is usually as follows:

1st Half of Class - Barre

Ballet class generally begins at the barre. Barre consists of basic movement and warm up exercises, one side at a time.

2nd Half of Class - Center Floor

For the second half of class, dancers generally move to the center of the floor. Center floor consists of steps and positions without the barre as well as actual dance combinations! These combinations take what you learn at the barre and create actual dance routines.

4. Knowledge of ballet terms isn’t essential before taking my First Day of Ballet Class. You will learn primarily through practice and demonstration. In fact, you will be surprised how much you can learn from watching your peers.

5. Make sure you hydrate! Bring water with you just like you would to the gym or any other exercise class.

6. Stretch often! Even outside of class. Ballet is a good workout and most likely, you will be sore. Stretching will help the muscles recover so that you can prevent injury and be able to continue coming to class.

Be sure to sign up for my class! See you soon :)
